As a parent of a child with a disability for 25 years, I have struggled many times over how to care for my child, my family and myself. Through the years, Ryan experienced issues medically, physically, mentally and emotionally.

Needless to say, as parents, we were devastated. We are like so many other families of children with developmental disabilities experiencing depression and anxiety as we have struggled to obtain crucial support services, the financial strain of paying for various therapies and the relentless worry over everything, including our marriage. All of it is VERY overwhelming.

We have been blessed to have our life group to pray with us and cry with us. There were so many times we had no idea how we were going to meet Ryan’s needs. We would pray and God would provide. There was no other explanation.

Each provision has given me a sense of standing under a Waterfall: I am cleansed of my fear, my guilt, my doubt, and my anger. God gives me a renewed strength to face each day knowing HE is with me. And through our personal experience God has put it on my heart to create The Waterfall.

The strategy that has made me successful in my endeavors is: Look up, look back, look in, and look forward. Look up (TRUST that God will provide), look back (at the experience), look in (reflect and pray on how to respond with positive actions), and look forward (how to take a new path for positive results).

If you are a parent, grandparent or guardian of a child that you have concerns about their development and you need support, please come to The Waterfall. My vision is to provide prayer, support and resources to empower families.

In addition to being a parent, I am also a Special Education teacher of children with significant needs. My mission is to network families of children with dis(abilities) and guide them in creating a plan that is developmentally appropriate.

The Waterfall meets on the third Tuesday of each month in the Well. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, March 17th from 6:30-8:30pm at Wellspring. If you have any questions, please contact Sandy Polizzotto
