It’s 8am on a Sunday morning at Littleton Prep; the gym has been transformed into a worship space.  It’s an hour and a half before the service starts; the worship band is all there.  They have set up the space for the morning; now their focus is on practicing today’s set, intermittent with laughter that carries from the gym down the hall of the school into the cafeteria that doubles as our Sunday School room.  The children’s ministry team is setting up the classrooms; everything comes out of portable shelving, from the rugs and pillows to the Bibles and crafts.  Three classrooms meet in the same area, divided by these roll-away-shelves, the teaching of the Gospel story to our children resounding between the spaces.

It’s 9am.  The greeters are at the doors, welcoming folks in like old friends.  It’s still 30 minutes before the service, but people come early just to see each other.  Moms with kiddos trailing talk about the last women’s get together.  Guys talk about their upcoming home brewing men’s night.  A child goes up to her dad and asks, “Are we playing corn hole at the picnic today?”  Grandparents check in their grandchildren for Sunday School.

It’s 11am: picnic time! Every other week over the summer, folks carpool over to Progress Park after the service to enjoy food, fellowship, and fun.   The burgers are grilling, sides are being set out, and round one of the corn hole championship is beginning: community is being formed under the picnic pavilion.  Although it’s all so new, you’d think we’ve been at this for years, rather than months, by the way we enjoy each other’s company.   The Kingdom is growing with every burger passed around and every smile shared.  Wellspring Littleton is growing wider and deeper as we spend time outside and inside of Sunday mornings together.
