7am and the trailer pulls up. Chairs unloaded, AV supplies arranged, stage constructed, curtains hung, Persian rugs laid out – ambiance as vital as the rest. Too early for many words, but the bond of shared labor is enough. The subtle snark of camaraderie and sleep deprivation dealt out in friendly doses – coffee’s still setting in, after all. Worship team rolls in around 8am, giving the men a brief respite to grab breakfast with their families, though some remain to set up children’s church. Church ends and the process reverses. Ne’er a complaint from the men who choose to love our congregation this way.

Each and every week, the men of Wellspring Littleton share the responsibility of transforming the aesthetically challenged gym of Littleton Prep into a beautiful and functional space. Tim Soots, Littleton’s Lead Pastor, and Derek Roberts, the Worship Pastor, worked tirelessly at the beginning of the plant to imagine a space that would not only operate practically as a church sanctuary, but would convey a sense of the holy. Derek commented on the process, “I am blown away at how great it looks for being a gym.” And he’s right. The beauty of the space makes the reality of the sterile gym negligible. Never before have I been more aware of how aesthetics can feed spiritual experience, and how grateful I am for those who care to attend to those details. The privilege of a worshipful atmosphere is made possible by the meticulous consideration given to the nitty-gritty of construction, audiovisuals, etc…. The process required to create this space was engineered by Luke Miller and Ethan Evans, who are present for the ordeal nearly every week. About 25 men from the congregation give their time on a weekly basis to rotate through the set-up team (essentially, all the men who attend the church plant). Derek remarked, “The fact that we have a space that is transformed from a school gym into something that feels worshipful on Sundays is purely thanks to the guys who give their time to transform the space.”

Thank you, men of Wellspring Littleton, for choosing to serve outside the limelight. Thank you for loving our church through the routine.
