Socks are not something that I spend a lot of time thinking about. As a matter of fact, you will most often not find my feet with socks on them (a throw back to my younger days when it was cool to have a pair of Bass penny loafers or Top Siders with no socks). So whether you prefer white, black, sports, hiking, wool, nylon, crew, knee high, striped, or spotted socks, socks are socks. That is until you have no socks, or only one pair, or they are soaking wet and it’s snowy and cold outside.

It’s that time of year when socks become an item of survival and good health.  For many of our guests in The Well and Wellness at the Well, clean dry socks are a very important thing.  Many of our friends live their day out on the street, in the rain and snow, standing, crouching or walking for the entire day and often the night.  Socks become not only a matter of comfort, but of necessity.

We are inviting Wellspring to help give our friends here in Englewood clean, new socks.  We will be collecting new socks (primarily white cotton or outdoor type) starting November 8th.  There will be collection baskets in the foyer for you to put your gift into.

To people like me, with a drawer full of socks, this is something I don’t normally give much thought to, but it is a really big deal to those who need just an ordinary pair of socks.
