These are the words inscribed on shiny blue coffee travel mugs we will gift our Englewood Police. Inside they’ll find a $10 Starbucks gift card, a Psalm 91 pocket card, and your personal prayer.

On a summer night when Ferguson police were being brutally challenged by mob violence, Wellspring Wednesday night prayer group met to pray. Not only did we pray about that situation, but we prayed for the welfare and protection of our Englewood police force and first responders. It occurred to me that it was important for these courageous men and women to know we prayed and that we cared.

This last week I witnessed a dramatic funeral procession for a fallen firefighter - as long strings of flashing light vehicles traveled East on 470. Firetrucks parked on every overpass, firemen standing on top in a reverent salute to their fallen friend. It takes such a scene to remind us that these men and women serve us with their lives. They choose to protect and save us in every perilous situation.

We, as the Wellspring Community, have a timely opportunity on November 8th, to bring an encouraging gift of support to these faithful servants. When you purchase the mug for $15.00, you will receive a card to compose your own personal prayer. We will need that card dropped off the following Sunday.

Wellspring’s goal is to gift 75 coffee cups to Englewood’s active duty police. If we have more response, we’ll include our firefighters.

It is my prayer that “they will know us by our love!”
