Call her Krissy.  Unemployed.  Newly pregnant.  Addicted.  No ID since the last time that her scrappy little camp was dragged from the bushes and tossed into a dumpster.  No family.  No friends… just a handful of "associates," … folk who will use her whenever and however they can.

Krissy needs a place off the street as the first freezing storms of the season move down the Platte River Valley, because bitter winds bring their howling bite down from Denver even into the hidden nooks and gnarled juniper hedges along Englewood's Little Dry Creek.

You don't have to go to the Denver Rescue Mission to get involved in urban street ministry.  In fact, you only have to walk about one city block from the Wellspring sanctuary.

Just west across the alley from Wellspring (at 4356 S. Broadway), you are invited to experience and get involved with "hands and feet" Jesus ministry as we engage in the tasks of poverty-related Kingdom work on the sidewalks of Englewood.

South Broadway Center volunteers serve meals, help folks get IDs so they can find jobs or apply for aid.  They tutor folks for GEDs, help clients fill out applications in the computer lab, distribute mail, pass out blankets… you name it.

Originally known as the City Center Community Center, this ministry addresses folks who are entangled in poverty.  We are in the process of moving from the Englewood Light Rail Station to the Wellspring block of Broadway.  Just as the Word became flesh, we become the hands and feet of Christ… where the hell of cold concrete meets the warmth of the Kingdom of God and God's people.

We're expanding our ministries, and we're eager to embrace and train new volunteers as individuals, families or as teams.  The onramp can be as easy or as challenging as you'd like to make it.

We need Life Groups or teams to sign up for Sat. night meals --the same sort of thing as Sunday afternoons at The Well downstairs.  We need folks to volunteer for a few hours on Tuesdays in the computer lab or in the resource center.  Folks to help distribute mail, and to supervise and assist clients with chores.  And we especially need servants of the Lord who are willing to listen and pray.

Also note:

We are desperate for folks and teams that are willing to be trained to host our front room --our "Warming Site"-- from 5:30pm to 7:15pm on Severe Weather nights as folks wait for the church bus that will bring them to a suburban church where they can sleep on a cot out of the storm.  Training is provided for each team, and the "assignments" range from very simple and low challenge to the Team Lead position for each shift that requires a person with more experience.

Please give this some thought and prayer.  We love it when folks simply check the ministry out, and we know it's not for everyone.  Starting VERY slow is usually wise, and for some folks, it's a one-time visit.  We only hope that folks will plug in as the Lord leads.  No more.  No less.

But for some, the Lord is calling.  Out there on the streets, there are some folks who really need to see and feel the Word.

OPEN HOUSE:  Sunday, Nov. 8th12:00-3:00pm at 4356 S. Broadway

Construction is still in progress, but the community is invited to stop by for a few minutes to check things out and to meet volunteers and learn more about the ministries at the South Broadway Center. People can come and go as they like, but representatives from the Giving Heart Englewood Homeless Ministry, as well as other ministries, will be there to give tours and explain the ways that we are serving Englewood on South Broadway.
